8 Week Grant Proposal Writing Course

Last Date:

441 4th St. N.W. Washington, DC

The Mayor’s Office of Partnerships and Grant Services (OPGS) has partnered with The Magi Group, LLC to offer a proposal writing course for District residents and organizations.  Designed for both the novice and the experienced individual, this intensive 8-week course combines expert instruction, with practical exercises, to take you step-by-step through all the stages of planning programs, locating funding sources, and writing grant proposals.  Using common grant development formats, this course will proceed step-by-step through the development of a proposal with emphasis on the following:

  • How to assess the capacity and funding attractiveness of your organization
  • How to develop relationships with funders
  • How to develop a compelling statement of need
  • How to design evidence-based programs and create a clear logic model
  • How to make work plans work for you
  • How to avoid the common pitfalls of proposal writing
  • How to prove that your programs and services will work

We will also discuss writing techniques to help make your grant-writing process smarter and faster.  The instructor will present valuable content information; then while you work on your own project, he will provide consultation and support to help you refine your own proposals. You will also learn how proposals are reviewed.  It is recommended that participants bring their own laptops. If you are currently developing a grant, bring it with you to work on.  Classes will be held Monday nights from 6pm-8pm in the training room at One Judiciary Square.  Classes will begin September 30, 2013 and will conclude December 2.

The class is limited and participants will be accepted via registration which is due by September 20.  Class fees will be covered by a competitive scholarship, so it is important that all participants are able to commit to attend all sessions.  Please complete the registration form and provide a brief statement about how the proposal writing class will be beneficial to you and/or your organization. Participants selected for the course will be notified by September 25.  Participants selected are required to bring a Request for Proposal (RFP) that they intend to apply for.
