In some cases, a donor may rescind his or her donation to the District government. In such cases, the recipient’s AFO must submit OPGS with a written request to retract the donation. The AFO should include the following information to retract a donation: agency code, agency account code, donor name and address, amount of donation, and brief explanation of the reason for rescinding the donation. OPGS will forward the information to the OFT. Allow approximately three weeks for the donor to receive a refund.
When completing the donation agreement, each donor is required to indicate whether it consents to allow the soliciting agency to apply any remaining unused financial donations to another District government program with a similar purpose in the current fiscal year or subsequent years. The donor should check the appropriate box to indicate its consent or non-consent. If the donor does not give its consent to apply any remaining unused financial donations to another program, any balance of a financial donation remaining after the donation period will be refunded to the donor.
A donor rescinding an in-kind or fixed asset donation should make arrangements with the agency to pick up the donation at no cost to the District. If the donor does not agree to pick up the donation, the District may charge the vendor any applicable fees for storage and shipping.
